Sermon Summary: Romans 13 focuses on our Christian relationships with those outside the church, particularly addressing our responses to earthly authorities, neighbors, and those encouraging sinful behavior. How shall we as Christians respond?
Summary: The story of twins Jacob and Esau unfolds with Esau's physical traits influencing his name and Jacob's inclination for deceit evident early on. Esau, the outdoorsman favored by his father, impulsively trades his birthright for a bowl of stew, showcasing his shortsightedness. Jacob, aided by his mother Rebekah, deceives his father to receive Esau's blessing, fulfilling the prophecy that the older son would serve the younger, despite Jacob's deceptive actions. This shows God's sovereign plan, where even Jacob's deceit does not hinder the fulfillment of the divine promise and blessing designated for him over Esau. God blesses His people, many times, in spite of them.
Connection to Jesus: The Biggest Story isn’t about God’s people getting it right, as much as it’s about God blessing his people even when they get things wrong. The Snake Crusher (Jesus) came from sinners like Rebekah and Jacob. And he came, the Bible tells us, to “save his people from their sins” (1:21). In fact, do you know what the name Jesus means? “Savior!” What a perfect name, for Jesus is our perfect Savior. Through Jesus, God chooses to save and bless people like you and me, even though we sin and get things wrong. Just like Jacob. Isn’t that beautiful?

Our city needs Jesus, our nation needs leadership, and persecuted believers worldwide need our support. Every month we dedicate a day as a church to prayer and fasting to lift these needs up to God and trust Him to do great things. This Thursday, April 25th, is our next Day of Prayer and Fasting. A prayer schedule will be sent out via email in the morning followed by an evening prayer meeting from 6pm to 8pm hosted at the Pastor Greg’s home.
Dinner will be provided. We’d love to have you join us.
