⏮ Sunday Rewind: June 2nd

A Gospel Centered Farewell
(Romans 16)

Sermon Summary: If there’s anything we learn in this final chapter in the Book of Romans, it’s that Paul loved the church and the church loved Paul, and the churches loved each other. Although Paul was not physically present, he was by no means distant from them in spirit. Paul was not a celebrity apostle. He kept himself close in the affairs of others’ lives, and he praises individuals on a first name basis. There’s a lot we can learn from Paul’s philosophy of ministry. All of us can take away something as an example for our Christian walk.

Treasure Seekers Lesson:

A Fancy Tent and a Foolish Cow! (Exodus 32-34)

The Big Truth: Only the True God should be worshipped!

Summary: After God met with the Israelites and gave Moses important rules called the Ten Commandments, he asked Moses to have the people make a special tent for him called the tabernacle. Even though God doesn't have a body, he wanted a place where the people could feel close to him and know he was always with them. The tabernacle was like a cozy home where they could meet God, worship him, and remember that he is holy, forgiving, and wants to be near them. It was a special place for the Israelites to connect with the true God!

Connection to Jesus: Israel was first saved from the Egyptians, but then faced their internal enemy, sin. Salvation is not only about God defeating enemies but also being gracious and merciful in our sin, paving the way for Jesus to pay the price for our wrongdoing. Just like the Israelites, we face the enemy of sin and require Jesus as our rescuer to bring salvation.

  • When Moses asked God not to destroy the people for their sin, what decision did God make? How does God respond to us when we express remorse for our sins? What does this reveal about God?
  • What actions angered God and Moses? How did God discipline them for their disobedience?
  • Why did the Israelites create and worship their own gods? How did this violate God's commandments? How should we worship God?
