⏮ Sunday Rewind: June 9th

The Book of Romans Flyover

Sermon Summary: If there’s anything we learn in this final chapter in the Book of Romans, it’s that Paul loved the church and the church loved Paul, and the churches loved each other. Although Paul was not physically present, he was by no means distant from them in spirit. Paul was not a celebrity apostle. He kept himself close in the affairs of others’ lives, and he praises individuals on a first name basis. There’s a lot we can learn from Paul’s philosophy of ministry. All of us can take away something as an example for our Christian walk.

Treasure Seekers Lesson:

Tale of Two Goats! (Leviticus 16)

The Big Truth: God forgives and forgets our sins.

Summary: God gave rules about sacrifices in Leviticus for His people to follow. The holiest person, the high priest, would dress up and go into a special place to make offerings. One important day, called the Day of Atonement, the priest would use two goats to ask for forgiveness for the Israel's sins.

Connection to Jesus: Jesus became the perfect sacrifice to forgive and forget our wrongdoings. Because of Jesus, God forgives our sins and loves us so that we can have a special relationship with Him. It's wonderful news that brings us joy!

Family Discipleship Time:

Take 5 minutes to read the Story (Story 17) in The Biggest Story Bible and Watch the Video with your kids

Discuss the Story.

  1. How is Jesus like the two goats on the Day of Atonement? How is Jesus better than the two goats?
  2. Because our holy God cannot be in the presence of sin, how did he make it possible for the Israelites to be in a relationship with him? What did the two goats symbolize for the Israelites about their sin?
  3. Why do you think the other Israelites couldn’t go into the tabernacle? Why was a sacrifice needed? Can sin be in the presence of a holy God?
  4. Who was allowed to enter the tabernacle to meet with God? How often could that person meet with God? How did he have to prepare? What does this tell us about God?

Review the Treasure Card (Memory Verse):
We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. HEBREWS 10:10

5) Pray Together
