Love Over Liberty!
(Romans 14:13-23)

Sermon Summary: In the last teaching, we learned that we must not judge others in their liberties. In this teaching, we now learn we must not abuse our own liberties. All should be done with love. In this next section, the Apostle Paul gives us 4 boundaries on the use of our liberties in Christ.

Treasure Seekers Lesson:

God Raises Up a Deliverer (Exodus 1-3)

Summary: God's people, the Israelites, were slaves in Egypt, doing hard work every day. The Egyptians were very mean to them, making their lives difficult. Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, even ordered to kill all the Israelite baby boys out of fear. But the brave mothers disobeyed and saved their babies. One baby, Moses, was placed in a basket on the river, found by Pharaoh's daughter, and raised as her own. When Moses grew up, God chose him to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. God protected his people through Moses and promised to deliver them.

Connection to Jesus: God is called "I AM who I AM," meaning He always exists and will exist forever. When Jesus, God's son, was on earth, He also referred to Himsel as "I am", showing His eternal nature. Jesus said He is the light of the world and the resurrection and the life. He told the Pharisees that He existed even before Abraham, emphasizing His eternal presence. Just as God called Moses to save the Israelites, Jesus came to save sinners from their sins and set them free. In Jesus, we find rescue from sin and the ability to live for the eternal "I am."

Family Discipleship Time:

1) Take 5 minutes to read the Story (Story 13) in The Biggest Story Bible with your kids

2) Watch the Video →

3) Discuss the Story

  • How can we emulate the courage of these women? What does their response reveal about whom they feared more—God or Pharaoh? Did all the women delivering babies comply with this order? What directive did Pharaoh give concerning Israelite baby boys?
  • How does it feel to know that God offers protection to His people? How was baby Moses protected by God? What potential dangers could have faced him?
  • Who did God send for our deliverance? Who did God indicate He would use to rescue the Israelites? How did God demonstrate that He had not forgotten them? Did God forget about the Israelites? In what ways were they mistreated?
  • Why do you think Jesus used the same phrase to describe himself? How does this differ from any other person in the world? What does it mean when God calls himself “I am who I am” (Ex. 3:14)?

4) Review the Treasure Card (Memory Verse): I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to . . . a land flowing with milk and honey. EXODUS 3:17

5) Pray Together
