Let's Agree to Disagree!
(Romans 14:1-12)

Sermon Summary: We all have liberties and limits of our conscience. But the question is: how do we live in a liberty that others are bound by? How do we live bound in something that others have the liberty to do? In verses 1-12 of chapter 14, there are three things the Apostle Paul would have us watch out for in matters of personal liberties, and how we can act maturely as Christians.

Treasure Seekers Lesson:

Joseph's Mean Brothers & What God Meant to Do (Genesis 37; 50)

Summary: Joseph, the favored son, faced hate from his brothers and was sold into slavery after sharing his dreams. Despite the mess, God had a good plan for Joseph. In Egypt, Joseph's integrity led to false accusations and imprisonment, but God granted him the gift of dream interpretation. Through interpreting Pharaoh's dream, Joseph rose to power in Egypt, saving many from famine. When his desperate brothers sought food, they unknowingly bowed before Joseph, who forgave them and brought blessings. Even in the messy story, God's plan prevailed, showing that He turns evil into good to save many lives and fulfill His promises.

Connection to Jesus: Even in messy situations, God works for good and fulfills His rescue plan. Despite the chaos, God's ultimate purpose shines through. Centuries later, Jesus faced rejection, suffering, and death at the hands of religious leaders, seeming like defeat. However, Jesus' resurrection conquered sin and fulfilled God's plan for salvation. This messy yet powerful story displays God's victory over evil and the fulfillment of His great salvation through Jesus.

3) Discuss the Story

  • 1. How did God help the people during the famine in Egypt and nearby lands? How was Jesus treated badly like Joseph, and how did God turn Jesus' death into something good?2. What unkind things did Joseph's brothers do to him? What could Joseph have done when his brothers came for help later? What lesson can we learn from how Joseph actually reacted?3. What do you think Joseph felt when he was in the pit or in prison? Did Joseph know about God's good plan from the start? How does Joseph's story show us that God is always with us, even in tough times?4. What were some of the difficult experiences Joseph faced? How did God use these challenges for good? What does this teach us about God's ways?

4) Review the Treasure Card (Memory Verse): "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." ROMANS 8:28
