The chariot was the height of man’s technology in ancient days, and the horse was the might of ancient warfare. The strength of a nation’s military was determined by these two factors. From a sheer human perspective, this was critical in war strategy and counting the cost of a battle. The nation who had more chariots and horses was likely the one to achieve the victory.
But David was not your typical man of war, was he? He remained undefeated his entire life in every single battle he fought — as a young shepherd against lions and bears, as a youth against Goliath, as a commander against Israel’s enemies, as an exile in foreign lands, and as the king of Israel against opposing nations. There was no contest. Hundreds of battles, and David won every time.
What was the key to his triumph?
According to David, it wasn’t his military genius, or his mastery of the sling, or the number of his militia. Actually, David was usually outnumbered. So again, what was the key to his triumph? The answer is found in our verse: Remembering the name of the LORD God. David's devotion and deep trust in God to fight the battles before him was the key to his success.
David was legendary for this singular reason.
Beloved, are we not men like David who can trust God to fight our battles? We are! Are we not promised victory through our Lord Jesus Christ? We are! Have we not been given the guarantee of triumph through faith in God? We have! There is no doubt.
The Scriptures are abundant in their declaration of victory through trusting God in all things.
What battles are before you today? Whatever it may be — whether physical, mental or spiritual — place your trust fully upon the name of God. Leave no reservations! Forget the chariots and horses of the today’s world.
Some may call you foolish. Others may think you’re not being rational. But remember, you’re in good company. All of these things they did to David too, but he was the one who walked from each battle victorious.

There are few things more comforting than to remember that Jesus, our Lord, is the Chief Shepherd of our souls. We do not ultimately look to men — even if they be truly spiritual — but we look to Christ who is the Head of the Church. Men...
