In the tapestry of God's grand design, the names of Christ weave a story of divine wonder, guidance, power, eternity, and peace. Each name, like a radiant gem, reflects a unique aspect of His character and mission, revealing the depth of God's zeal for our salvation through the sending forth of His Son.
Let us focus our gaze on each of these five majestic names of Christ.
First, we see the name “Wonderful.” Christ's name, Wonderful, evokes the awe and astonishment fitting for a divine miracle. It reminds us of the time when the pre-incarnate Christ, appearing in the Book of Judges, described His name as Wonderful. This rare Hebrew word, used only 13 times in the Old Testament, signifies an unusual miracle, a marvelous phenomenon.
The first time we see this Hebrew word for Wonderful is right after God had wrought the victory for Israel over the Egyptians at the crossing of the Red Sea. After all of the incredible signs and wonders of God, Moses sings these eloquent words:
And as the Psalmist declares:
Indeed! God is the God of wonders, and His Christ shall be called Wonderful.
Christ’s second name: Counselor. As Counselor, Christ embodies the ultimate source of wisdom and knowledge. The word here in Hebrew, meaning more literally, one from whom wisdom comes. Yes! As the Apostle Paul declares,
Christ, the Counselor. Beloved, even more, Our Counselor. His counsel, unlike any human advisor, is infallible and eternal, leading us in truth.
Thirdly, we see the name Mighty God. Can there be a more explicit declaration of the Christ’s divinity? He is not just “unto us a Child,” but He is “Mighty God.” He is the embodiment of God's power and majesty.
We are, therefore —
Christ’s fourth name is Everlasting Father. Not to be confused that the Son of God is the Father God. Though both the Father and the Son are one in nature, They are distinct in person. Rather, the Son is the father to that which is Everlasting! He is, as Daniel declares, “the Ancient of Days!” (see Daniel 7:9, 13, 22)
Yes, the Son of God was conceived in the womb as a child, but He was not created then — He is everlasting — has always been and will always be. Though He entered our world as a child, He was already in the beginning with God, for He is God (see John 1:1-5).
Fifth and last of all, we see the name Prince of Peace. Christ is the royal bringer of peace, not as the world gives, but a peace that surpasses all understanding (see Philippians 4:7).
In Christ, we have His peace for life and we have His peace with God. Once again, as the Apostle Paul declares about Christ: “For He Himself is our peace...” (Ephesians 2:14) and “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…” (Romans 5:1)
Ah! What a glorious name of all names! Each one offers a unique window into the heart of God, revealing His zeal for our redemption and His profound love for us! Beloved, as we reflect on these names, let us draw closer to Him, embracing the fullness of His nature. Let these names of Christ be a beacon of hope for you, guiding you through your trials and triumphs. For it is in understanding the richness of His character that we find strength, wisdom, and surpassing peace in His presence.

How could this be, that one generation knew the LORD and the next did not know Him? The former generation “served the LORD" (see Judges 2:7) and the latter generation “did evil in the sight of the LORD" (see Judges 2:11).

The great prophet Moses reminds Israel of God’s love for them and God’s choosing of them as His special people. But a vital clarification is made. The LORD does not choose or love based on the might, power or strength of a person...
