Oh, how great and unsearchable are the ways of God! Surely, even in Job’s suffering, he was in awe of God and the transcendence of His presence and power. We often praise God that He is near to us, but there must be times when we praise God that He is far above and beyond us. As King Solomon proclaimed —
It is a glorious thing that our God took on flesh to dwell among us; that He will be a Man forever in His resurrected state dwelling with us forever and ever in the New Heaven and New Earth (see Revelation 21:3). But let us not be so arrogant to ever think His nearness comes at the expense of His preeminence and matchlessness. The wicked belittle God this way, and God sharply rebukes them for it —
God in the concentration of His fullness will always dwell in unapproachable light whom no man has seen or can see (see 1 Timothy 6:16), and we will be forever unraveling the everlasting mystery in His fullness and goodness forever ever. Amen! All of eternity is not enough time to comprehend the majesty and resplendence of His glory. Only God alone knows all of God, and even in glory I believe we will still worshipfully declare the old words of Job, “Even still, how small a whisper we hear of Him!”
Therefore, look up to the Lord today and exalt Him, for He sitting on a throne that is high and lifted up! (see Isaiah 6:1) Let it humble you and remind you that we serve a God that is mighty and all-powerful. And may we be even more humbled to know that our Thundering God is for us, His people, not against us (see Romans 8:31). Our praises may feel microscopic when held against the light of God’s glory, but He deserves all our praises even still!
Whatever may be our lot today, whether good or bad, how can we not praise His Holy Name? We must praise Him!
