Read Isaiah 25

“He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken. And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”” (Isaiah 25:8–9)

Oh, dear saints, what a glorious promise and bright future we have in these prophetic words from Isaiah. "He will swallow up death forever and wipe away tears from all faces!" This day in which Isaiah speaks of is a day of victory — the day that death will forever be defeated by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No more sorrow. No more pain. No more evil.

What will creation be like without the sting of death? What new joys will relationships take on without the threat of tears? What happiness awaits us to be in the physical presence of our God and King? We must cling to this promise — God’s ultimate promise — and find our hope in our Lord whom we patiently wait for.

“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”” (Revelation 21:3–4)

If these things be true and this is our shining future, should not the joy of it define how we live today? In this same context, the Apostle Peter asks us this question: “What manner of persons ought we to be in holy conduct and godliness?" (see 2 Peter 3:11)

It is the great scheme of the devil to convince us into defining our lives by anything else but our future in Christ. And sadly, he succeeds too often. To some, that serpent of old successfully snares a Christian with his past. To others, he distracts the Christian with the present. And yet, even to others, he chains Christians to the dream of a temporary future in this world that will fade away. But the one thing Satan does not want the Christian to see is his ultimate future in Christ.

Oh, that is why we must meditate on these words, Beloved! That is why we must be vigilant to define every action of our lives today in line with the promise of our future hope in Christ. It’s not that far away, Christian! Christ is near, at the doors! The threshold of His return is soon to be crossed and Satan knows his time is short. And even now death is shaking in its boots.

“I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.” (Hosea 13:14)

Do not, therefore, be deceived by the wicked one! Do not let the sorrows of this world decide your life. For a Christian who lives today in the confidence of this future promise is an awesome weapon in the hands of God!

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:16–18)

How could this be, that one generation knew the LORD and the next did not know Him? The former generation “served the LORD" (see Judges 2:7) and the latter generation “did evil in the sight of the LORD" (see Judges 2:11).
