Take special note of Paul’s words to the Ephesians. We, the church, have the unique role of showing forth the wisdom of God to the principalities and powers of heaven. How marvelous and unsearchable are the depths of God’s grace that He chooses to use us to manifest His wisdom even to the angelic beings!
In the first letter of the apostle Peter we find this profound statement as well:
O Beloved, ponder this truth for a moment with me. The angels in all of their celestial grandeur are watching us, even right now, with great wonder and amazement, striving to understand the depths of God’s great love for us. Remember, it was not the form of an angel that our Lord Jesus assumed, but He became a man like us, for our sake, in an act that strikes great curiosity in heaven. Yes, to us God has handed over His Word to reveal His manifold wisdom. But not so with the angels. To angels, God is using us to reveal His manifold wisdom.
Think of it! The angels possess great power and majesty. When they have appeared to us throughout history, as the Scriptures record, we are the ones who become overwhelmed by their presence. We read of some who even become so deathly afraid, they fall down as dead in uncontrollable trembling and awe.
And yet, God did not elect the mighty angels to reveal the mysteries of His wisdom, but to us, the Church, God chose. The angels may be mighty in appearance, but we the Redeemed have become mighty in God’s fullness and power! (see Ephesians 3:19, 4:13)
I recall overhearing children having an imaginative conversation about what it must be like to be an angel in heaven — to fly, to vanish and appear, to see God on His throne. But I tell you, the angels in heaven laugh at such a thought, for they wonder what it must be like to be a human, created in the image of God and filled with all the fullness of Christ. Ha! We are the water-cooler talk of angelic conversations. More angels could wish to be men than we realize.
What can we learn from this simple, yet wonderful truth?
The Almighty God of the Universe holds you in great affection, Beloved. He loves you dearly. So much so that you — not the angels — bear His image in your body, and you are being transformed from glory to glory into the likeness of the Mighty Savior. God’s designs for you defy comprehension. The purposes that God has for you are unimaginable!
Prepare yourself, dear friend, if you can, for God has a plan for you in this life and the next that is exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ever ask or think (see Ephesians 3:20). Truly, as they say, the best is yet to come. And, I assure you, it is approaching quickly.

The Apostle Paul sets forth two powerful commands for the church in this succinct verse. The first command is *to be* something, and the second command is *to be as* something.
