To walk worthy of the Lord. Oh, what a prayer by Paul! What a task! How can that ever be possible? But it is, Christian. It is, because you are found in Christ and His redemption. A man trying to walk worthy of the Lord outside of Christ is a man condemned by the law and his imperfections. But not you. You are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, and given the power of the Holy Spirit to walk worthy of the Lord.
The word walk is an important word for Paul. He uses it frequently throughout his letters, and what he means by it is not all that different than what we mean by it today. It refers to a way of being or behaving. We might take the liberty to translate this verse “that you may behave worthy of the Lord."
More important to our discussion, however, is the word worthy. Every time this word is used in the New Testament, it is used as a call to action to the people of God. Listen closely —
It is a call to a higher life! — a deeper life found in the person of Jesus Christ. But here is the clincher. To walk worthy of the Lord culminates in becoming fully pleasing to Him. Think on that! Because you are in Christ, you have been made a new creation that can actually be pleasing unto your Redeemer. And to please Him is to find no greater joy.
In the words of A.W. Tozer: “The man who has God for his treasure has all things in One."
Or as David famously put it —
Beloved, are you walking worthy of the Lord? Are you living to fully please Him? Or have you settled for less? There is a more glorious and wonderful life in Christ waiting for you. It’s full of every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. It’s empowered by the will and power of the Holy Spirit. It’s light and restful for the soul.
Christ is walking in the midst of the garden He’s planted for you, calling your name. Will you meet Him? Will you walk with Him today? I promise you there is no greater reward.

In this section of Scripture, we have a clear description of who we were when Christ died for us. Not neutral bystanders, and certainly not good or righteous saints, but vile ungodly sinner and enemies of God! This is who Christ died for —
