There will inevitably be seasons when it feels that God is silent to our prayers. The temptation is to think of God as unfair or uncaring to our plight. But is this true? It’s in times like these that our faith in the Almighty is revealed for what it really is. Will we trust in the living God who never changes as revealed in His Word? Or will we perceive God to be altogether different than He is based upon the circumstances of our life? The Scriptures clearly declare:
Do you believe that? Praise Him that He never changes! Though Satan should buffet us and desire to sift us as wheat, is not Christ at the right hand of the Father praying for us? Even more, have we not received a double portion from the Lord as Elisha did from Elijah, for even the Holy Spirit is interceding on our behalf with unutterable groanings. Imagine that — both Christ and the Spirit are in constant intercession for you.
Oh, easily we drift from the Lord like a boat that has been lost at sea! How quickly we go from walking on water to drowning in the stormy waves. “Where are you Lord Jesus?”, we cry out! But He hasn’t moved. He is right in front of us the whole time. It’s our focus on the storm that has changed, not our faithful Lord.
Or have we forgotten the first century creed, which proclaims:
Our great God cannot and will not be unfaithful to you for He cannot deny Himself. We must quit thinking of Him to be like a sinful man, and remember that He is a faithful God.
Therefore — if your plea is as Job’s, change it quickly! God is not silent. He never is. He is forever and always working all things for your good (see Romans 8:28). He is finishing the good work which He started in you (see Philippians 1:6) and working in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure (see Philippians 2:13).
Let us be as David who cried out:
Therefore, Beloved of God, cast away all your doubts and put away all the lies of the devil. God will be faithful to you, don’t you worry. He will be your shield and exceedingly great reward (see Genesis 15:1).

What a wonderful phrase! Times of refreshing. The word for refreshing is only used once in the entire New Testament as inspired by the Holy Spirit, which leads us to unpack its meaning with additional curiosity.
