How peculiar it would be for us to learn of a lion befriending a mouse. They have virtually nothing in common. The lion roars, the mouse squeaks. The lion hunts, the mouse hides. The lion prowls, the mouse scurries. Never shall the two meet as friends except in children’s books.
Actually, that is not true.
Consider the words of our text in Hebrews! The Lion of the Tribe of Judah — Jesus Christ — has befriended us, akin to unclean mice!
Indeed, not only are we friends of Christ, but we are family with Christ.
Sons of glory! Brethren! The Bride!
What mysterious love is this that we should be brought into the household of God to share in the inheritance of our King?
Beloved, do not let the great privilege of your salvation pass by you. Pay special attention to the writer of Hebrews’ words in our selected text. The One who sanctifies (Christ — the Lion) and those who are being sanctified (us — the mice) are united as one. Do you hear that great declaration? One!
Today, as you go about your business, do not forget this one thing: you are a friend of the King.
Furthermore, the King of kings is not ashamed to call you His own.
